5 emotions of those living with diabetes

For several years, science has confirmed that the emotional factor influences the recovery, positively or negatively, of illnesses and injuries in people.

In the case of diabetes , some complications related to it such as dialysis , decreased vision , retinal damage, leg or foot ulcers, and amputations, contribute to the development of depressive symptoms in patients.

At a press conference, Marisol ZariƱana , psychologist and active member of the Mexican Association of Diabetes Educators , comments that there are five emotions that have the greatest impact on those who live with this disease.

"Sadness, anger, guilt, apathy and denial are very common among patients with diabetes and are associated with a low level of self-monitoring of the disease."

According to ZariƱana, there is a close relationship between the effect of the patient's emotional state and their level of acceptance of the disease.

“People with diabetes  have lower scores on the acceptance scale, which is also reflected in less control of their glucose levels through self-monitoring. On the contrary, there is a positive correlation between acceptance and self-monitoring of the disease.”

6 out of 10 suffer from depression

It is estimated that the prevalence of clinical depression is up to 60% more frequent in adults diagnosed with diabetes ; In addition, stress and negative emotional reactions are much more common in them, which affects the control of the disease and increases the risk of complications.

Given this need, it is important to guide the patient to choose a glucometer that suits their needs and educate them to use their device correctly. Devices such as Nipro 's easy Prestige now exist , which use no-encryption technology.

With this glucometer it is not necessary for the patient to enter their data before each measurement. This feature allows for fewer measurement errors and more reliable results in two easy steps: test strip insertion and blood sample application.
